Stainless Steel and Corrosion Resistant Specialty Products
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is regularly used for fasteners as it provides strength, heat protection and corrosion resistance in a variety of challenging environments.
An Okabe specialty, we supply stainless steel products to the automotive and automotive related markets. Customers such as lead-acid battery manufacturers rely on Okabe stainless products for value and reliability.
Corrosion Resistant Coated Steel
Stainless steel is not necessarily the most durable or economical option for every corrosion resistant fastener requirement. Stainless steel is often thought to be stronger than regular steel, however this is a misconception. Stainless alloys are not hardened, and therefore are not significantly more resilient than unhardened Grade 2 steel. Fasteners formed from Grade 5 or better regular steel would have considerably greater strength.
Regular grades of steel when plated/coated properly can often meet customer requirements for corrosion inhibition. For example, bolts coated in Geomet can achieve salt spray resistance of 720 hours yet be less than half the cost of stainless steel.
